FEMELLA
Femella.
It’s a word of emotions.
Of sacrifices and struggles
She fought for her recognition
Broke invisible barriers
Walked in the limelight
And conquered the world
Nature was quite unfair
Took a toll on her every month
She bled
But never complained
Not once.
She brings a soul into the world
It’s an obligation they say
Correction!
It’s her inclination
Once she is born
They tag her with a gender
And then comes inconspicuous norms
You are a girl
Abide by them!
Interrupt them
You are a misanthrope
Unladylike they say
From the four tainted walls, she ventured
Out in the open
Across the fields
Into the books
Knowledge comes with arrogance
Warned masculinity
She ignored
Slowly the wildfire spread
The voice that was submerged in her
Now is the voice of millions
And yet she continues
With the most appealing smile
And open arms,
She welcomes the world
Ready to carry it on her shoulders.
And this she
Is in all of our homes
Every woman out there
Has her own story
A story of self-sacrifice,
Oppression, revolt
And liberation.
And that’s what defines her.
Her identity as a woman.
Her identity as a femella.
